Our Purpose

Why are we here?

We are here to build the social and financial fabric of our communities by serving each other.

In the bustling marketplaces of our towns and cities, small to medium-sized businesses are the lifeblood of the community, providing not just goods and services, but a sense of belonging and mutual support. The purpose of Local Marketing Oasis for these businesses transcends mere commerce; it is about weaving the fabric of a community tighter, fostering relationships, and nurturing a shared

identity. As the Bible beautifully articulates, "Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms" (1 Peter 4:10). This sentiment captures the essence of community service through business: using one's unique talents and resources to uplift and serve the collective.

Buckminster Fuller, a visionary thinker, once said, "You never change things by fighting the existing reality. To change something, build a new model that makes the existing model obsolete". Local Marketing Oasis embodies this philosophy by creating a new paradigm where businesses and consumers are partners in progress, not adversaries in transaction. It's about building a model of mutual benefit, where the success of a business is intrinsically linked to the well-being of its community.

Abraham Lincoln, a leader renowned for his wisdom, believed in the power of unity and collective action. He said, "The best way to predict your future is to create it". Local marketing for small to medium-sized businesses is a proactive approach to shaping the future of a community. It's about creating opportunities for growth, learning, and collaboration that benefit all.

Local Marketing Oasis serves small to medium-sized businesses for more than just a profit; it's a commitment to community stewardship, innovation, unity, and selfless service.

What do we care about? Mental health and permaculture.

Mental Health

As a filmmaker, musician, and educator, Patrick Mureithi has dedicated his life to impacting mental health opportunities and aiding others in their journey to recover from trauma. His work, deeply rooted in personal experience, extends beyond the screen and into the lives of those he touches, embodying a mission to foster environments where healing is not just a possibility but a reality.

Mureithi's approach to mental health is holistic, emphasizing the need for community support, spirituality, and creative expression as vital components of recovery. His documentaries, such as "Kenya: Until Hope is Found," explore the depths of psychological trauma and the pathways to healing, resonating with audiences worldwide. His belief in the transformative power of storytelling aligns with the views of Mental Health America, which advocates for integrated care and treatment, emphasizing that "the vast majority of individuals with a substance use disorder in the U.S. are not receiving treatment".

The World Health Organization echoes this sentiment, highlighting the urgent need to transform mental health care. In their comprehensive report, they reveal that "in 2019, nearly a billion people – including 14% of the world’s adolescents – were living with a mental disorder" and stress the importance of addressing the global, structural threats to mental health. Mureithi's mission resonates with these findings, as he seeks to create spaces where individuals can confront and overcome their mental health challenges.

One such space is Soteria House, a therapeutic community residence that offers an alternative approach to psychosis treatment. Here, the focus is on person-centered adaptive care, providing a non-restrictive, home-like environment where individuals can work through their experiences without the pressure of conventional psychiatric medication. Mureithi's vision is to build and fund more homes like Soteria House, where the emphasis is on understanding and compassion rather than medication and hospitalization.

Patrick's mission is a clarion call for a more humane and effective approach to mental health care. By building homes of healing and spreading awareness through his art, he contributes to a world where mental health is not just a personal struggle but a collective responsibility. His work inspires us to look beyond traditional methods and embrace the healing power of community, creativity, and care.

Permaculture

Jay Butler's awareness of permaculture began in 2006 and turned into his passion upon enrolling in a permaculture course with his father in 2021 with Bill Wilson of Midwest Permaculture.

In the pursuit of a sustainable future, permaculture stands as a beacon of hope and practicality, offering a path to enrich the quality of life for billions. It is a philosophy that intertwines with the very fabric of stewardship and care for the Earth, as reflected in the biblical verse, "For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink" (Matthew 25:35). This ancient wisdom echoes the permaculture principle of caring for people, providing for our communities from the abundance of nature.

Butler Permaculture Design and the Farmville Gardens Project exemplify this new model, where time, treasure, and resources are invested to create a living example of the permaculture lifestyle. These initiatives serve as a testament to the power of collective action and the importance of starting with ourselves to serve as exemplars of change.

The ethos of permaculture is grounded in the understanding that we are stewards of the Earth, tasked with the responsibility of nurturing and preserving it for future generations. The Bible encourages us to "divide your bread with the hungry and bring the homeless poor into your house" (Isaiah 58:7), a call to action that aligns with permaculture's core values. By embracing these principles, we commit to a life of service, not only to the environment but also to the less fortunate among us.

Humility and community service are the cornerstones upon which permaculture stands. Mark Twain once remarked, "The best way to

cheer yourself is to try to cheer someone else up". This sentiment captures the essence of permaculture's community-driven approach.

By contributing to projects like Butler Permaculture Design and Farmville Gardens, we embody the spirit of service and humility, fostering a community that thrives on cooperation, respect, and mutual support.
